*this report has been written in an decidedly inelegant, but readable hand. some parts seems a bit neater than others*

Ashenvale, Xallvar 11.

Report on the Journal of Fanaion, former Silver Sentinel.

Most of this journal was written a thousand years ago during the war of the shifting sands. I've copied the introduction and the passages that chronicle the retrival, use and subsequent conscenquences of an artifact from Eldre'thalas. While what has been written is vague it does get increasingly more disturbing toward the end. The final passage (there are a lot of empty pages still in the journal, but these are all blank) was originally written in Eredun and is very recent and unsettling.

I will start with the introduction of the journal, which speaks of the bitterness of the war:

Fanaion's Journal

I hate journals. I fully realize the irony of saying this, but it would defeat the purpose if I didn't. In the past few months, I've found that it's true what they say: You need to talk about these experiences, or you'll lose it.

Problem is, I've lost everyone I could talk to. And thus a new journal begins.

Will it chronicle the end if this seemingly endless war? By Elune, I sure hope it does.

Oh yes: I hate journals.

This second entry reveals a plan. It also metions two of Fanaion's comrads by name. Eldariel and Centrius. I belive Eldariel to be the one who's specifically mentioned as a friend.

Fanaion's Journal

Eldariel and Centrius have approached me for support in a most daring plan. They think -with good reason- that the Keeper will dismiss it if they don't have enough support from other Silver Sentinels.

I have politely declined their request. Even though he is my friend.

What they suggest is madness.

Fanaion has a change of heart about the plan as the loses keep increasing.

Fanaion's Journal

I can smell the scent of flowers in the wind as we come closer to the pass. I used to dream of this moment, but now it only makes me sick. We have lost the desert. We have been on the defence since the beginning. How can we hope to win?

It is but a matter of weeks before we are forced to retreat to the Un'Goro crater.

People are still mumbling futile prayers to Elune. Where is she, eh? She's not doing a bloody thing. I think I'll meet with Eldariel and Centrius tomorrow.

The Keeper of the Silver Sentinels gives permission for seven Sentinels to leave for Eldre'Thalas. There is still no mention of the artifact or if they were looking for something in specific.

Fanaion's Journal

It took considerable effort, but we've managed to persuade the Keeper to let us leave for Eldre'Thalas. I've no idea how bad the situation is there though. But we're a group of 7 capable men so we should be alright, no matter what we're facing.

The Keeper refuses to send a priestess or a druid with us. But at least he's letting us leave.

Now let's hope Azshara left something nice for us.

This one is about their travel through Eldre'Thalas and their encounter with the Satyr.

Fanaion's Journal

It's been a couple of hours since we faced the Satyr. They actually offered to give us their power. Yeah right, as if we didn't pay attention to the stories of the elders.

There's a distinct difference between Arcane and Demonic energies and I don't fancy growing horns, hooves and excessive bodily hair. They've all retreated now, the cowards.

We feared they might come back with reinforcements, but if they'd planned that they'd have been here by now. Eldariel is calling, I must go.

This is the first entry that mentions the unknown atrifact.

Fanaion's Journal

It's night now, and truth be told, I'm happy to be out of that place again. There were no signs of Satyr at all, so we were able to explore the place without interruption.

And what and exploration it was! I have no words to describe how happy I am to have this artifact! Time for us to go back and win this war!

First mention of someone named Lorion. Fanaion here also starts to exhibit a decreasing state of mind. I believe the artifact may be responsible.

Fanaion's Journal

Back in the desert. We were quite surprised when we found the armies stationed in the far South-Western tip of Tanaris. I guess Silithus is lost. I expected this, but still.

Besides that, all goes according to plan. Though I'm suspicious about Lorion. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about him...

He can't be trusted. I shall keep an eye on him!

This artifact should be considered highly addictive, if not dangerous. The journal, however, offers no description of it's appearance or fuction.

Fanaion's Journal

I got to hold it today. I really can't express the immense sense of power I felt surging through my body, invigorating me to my very core. I have to hold it again!

Fanaion's increasing paranoia, I strongly believe is being caused by the artifact. Eldariel is mentioned by name here for the last time. It is unclear wether he still lives to this day.

Fanaion's Journal

I think Centrius and Lorion are trying to betray us. They're reckless, too reckless. No good can come of this. I will have to speak with Eldariel soon and solve this.

This evidence points to Fanaion having murdered Centrius and Lorion.

Fanaion's Journal

All has been taken care off. they're just another casualty, no-one will notice.

The war is going better, just a little more now. We're even finding people again, people once though to be lost. But I'm too deep into this now, and it's almost over anyway. No need to talk about it.

This artifact might be concious or semi concious. Perhaps it merely influences the mind. Either way it should be considered dangerous. Fanaion seems to have erased the tracks.

Fanaion's Journal

The war is over... And this is our thanks?! It is too risky to stay, the artifact agrees, they'll find out for sure...

I can hear whispers in the dark, they're telling me of a safe place.

There is but one thing left to do: Steal the records so they won't know if I'm still alive or dead.

Noone in the Archives will notice, and if they do... Well, what is one more corpse?

This last entry is very recent and has been translated from Eredun. It speaks of revenge. This might very well be revenge on the Kaldorei or the Silvereye Circle, who were formerly known as the Silver Sentinels.

Fanaion's Journal (translated from Eredun, the demonic language)

I never thought I'd see this old journal again. But I might as well use it now, as I have quite something to report. It must have been almost 1,000 years since I've been outside this place, until now.

We've traveled to the North to meet with them, and the plan is finally coming together. I will have my revenge!

The Great Work will soon be fulfilled!

What so ever this great work may be, I believe it requires the urgent attention of the Keeper and her advisors.

The letter found with the armor crate might reveal more, but I'm currewntly still in the process of translating it.

Regards,
Ashtear Forestsong.

((OOC: I still need an actual letter to translate *grins*))
