And lo, with faith renewed, who will follow the Vision, the Eye?
Those who hear the message unspoken, amongst the cries. Following a delay to seek out alternative means of translating the Journal, the Circle gathered again in Darkshore. Sentinel Nasheen spoke of how she had approached the Naaru, but those ethereal creatures had simply said such things were not of their purview, and referred it to their Scryer allies. Nasheen had wisely decided such aid might not be the best to take, and returned to the Circle.
She spoke also of the patrols and scouting missions she had lead in the forests of Ashenvale, and how she had located increasing caches of weapons, armour and even war machines.
She spoke of how she and sisters Natashy and Kinly had encountered Orc warriors enraged and filled with incredible strength by some corrupted herb, and how, having retrieved a sample only just managed to avoid some corrupting illness that the herbs brought with them.
This grim news aside, the Circle turned to Ashtear again, to seek out the truth of the journal, and bolstered by prayers to the Goddess, and the company and faith of her Kin, she began.
Weaving the spell around the book, Ashtear began to slip into a trance. Before long the secrets fo the journal revealled themselves a little at a time. Hidden behind the illusion of the suspiciously undamaged pages was a second journal, apparently not written by Fanaion Greyclaw, but by someone named Nyra Darktree. As she travelled deeper into the enchantment, however, disaster struck. Some complexity of the spell, or perhaps some trap left by its weaver struck her.
Ashtear shuddered, jerked aside, heard voices laughing in her mind, and raved about "satyr hands". Priestess Dusksinger intervened, breaking the spell, and calming Ashtear, before taking her back to the tranquility of Darnassus to recuperate.
Satyr magic was now confirmed to be behind the journal. Ominous word from the caravan Aldaron had attacked in Ferelas spoke of a "Great Work", and the ability to "disguise oneself flawlessly". A vast web of shadows and threats could be glimpsed, but not seen in full.
However, acting on Erynia's suggestion, the Keeper began to gather a Raiding Party to seek out one of the most infamous Satyr mages known. The corrupt Illhoof, whom, from his base in the ruined, haunted tower of Karazhan gathered, studied and perfected terrible arcane and demonic magicks.
The tale of that epic assault by a handful of Kaldorei and their allies is best recounted elsewhere, but with the slaying of Illhoof, his blasphemous library was the prize, and the Keeper spent many days there sealing the most wicked tomes away, and directing that those that might be of use be transported away for safe keeping...
Another piece of the puzzle revealled, but still not enough to comprehend the the Oracle's intent, or the true nature of the Great Work.
