For Taiev and whoever else is interested.

An agent was able to obtain some documents from inside the undercity. The following note was found in Apothecary Helbrims file.

QUOTE
The Shandalzare Project.

The spirit Shandalzare is a being created from the remains of a creature heavily exposed to demonic magic. It has no coporeal form but is a concentration of energy having gained it’s own will and personality. It has a number of powers including direct mind control, empathic control, and the ability to assume infinate control of creatures of the same nature as itself.

Rituals were conducted in coorporation with agent Forklam upon Felfire Hill, Ashenvale. Forklam continues his research in Mannoroc Coven. on how to better control the beast, Apothecary Helbrim continues his work in Crossroads, working as our agent in the Barrens

In light of these discoveries, myself, Arrina, Darjana, Aerandul and Gilthas set out to Mannoroc Coven in order to uncover more clues. What we found there was disturbing. Several creatures – some resembling animals, but all twisted somehow – were chained to ritual sites scattered in the coven. They had all been slaughtered, or perhaps, sacrificed. At one of these sites, we also found a laboratory where infernal water was being produced alongside what appears to be Forklams journal. I have had it translated by one of the Argent Dawn officers in the eastern plaguelands. Here is the essential it contained.

QUOTE
January 16
I convened with Helbrim last night. Due to my knowledge of the demonic powers that surge through this world, the mage decided that my help would be welcome on this mission. I know not why the Society didn’t debrief me as I left Lordaeron, but that does not matter now. Helbrim wants to enslave some manner of beast in Felwood. I had heard rumours of these mutated creatures, but I didn’t think they would be of interest. If what Helbrim tells me is true though, it will prove a valuable asset. We will be keeping the true purpose of this mission a secret for the escort as it is my belief that they will drop their weapons when they hear what happened to the last expedition. But where they failed, I shall succeed.

February 2:
The elven woods are vast and what makes matters worse, we have travelled them for more than a week now, going in circles. I’m seriously starting to doubt if Helbrim remembers the way. He is the best we have though, and we shall have to make due with him

February 13:
We found the beast and we have captivated it. Sadly, Carlos and Jonathan had to die. But that is of little importance. We still have Harald who transport it. I can only hope Helbrim remembers the way out of this forest. I have always been bad with directions

February 17:
We arrived yesterday at the laboratory on Felfire Hill. Sadly, the beast cannot be controlled. It has gone into a frenzy which I fear it shall never get out of. Helbrim is working hard to please the society, but I highly doubt he will be successful. Harald is growing more crazy by the minute. I cannot discern exactly what is causing this, but he is a liability we cannot afford at this time. I will make the society station him somewhere he won’t get in the way.

February 18:
We have reached some success at least, and that shall have to do. We could not tame the beast but we have been able to tame it’s will. Together, Helbrim and I have slain the creature and binded it’s soul to it’s heart, which we in turn cursed to beat forever. So long as this enchantment holds, this creature is bound to our will. I have named it Shand’al Zarah, the vengeful spirit in the ancient tongue of the dreadlords.

February 26:
Having studied Shandalzare for the past week, I have realized just how powerful this creature is. Regardless of the faith I have in Helbrims enchantments, I fear the spirit may break free at some point. In case the worst should happen, I have found means to destroy the spirit.

*The following is a detailed description of a demonic ritual. It requires Shandalzare’s heart and a place of demonic concentration (the dark portal is mentioned) but aside from this, you are unsure exactly what it says since it contains many strange demonic terms and is rather chaotic written. After studying it for a while, you come to the conclusion that in order to discern the text, you’d have to have a lot of experience with conducting fel rituals*

I think what the Forklam was trying to do here was to create more of these spirits, something that would prove disasterous for the balance of this world. Fortunately, Forklam is dead and has been the last month. The ritual might have been halted, but we should make sure it is not continued in the future. What should be done about this?

Ya'll know what time it is, it's bed time. And by bed I mean ethnic and by time I mean cleansing.

Maneroc Coven has long been a blight in Desolace. It does not, sadly, surprise me, that the trail of Shandalzare has lead here.

For the time being, I believe we should keep watch on the region. Perhaps the Hunt could mount regular patrols through the region to keep an eye out for a resumption of this ritual.

In the meantime, the trail also leads to Crossroads. Perhaps we should turn there next?
