As the Children of the Moon awoke to their heritage, growing wise and graceful and immortal on the shores of the Well of Eternity, a heartbreaking vision of the silver Goddess Elune was vouchsafed to a handful. Though Her words are lost now, her Vision of the Kaldorei as the stewards of Azeroth was not. Inspired by the grace and beauty of the Goddess, and the glory of this vision, they swore an Oath in Her name to safeguard Her people.

They would be known as the Silver Guard, and would stand watch over the birth of the Kaldorei people. Amongst the first to join with Malfurion and Tyrande in opposing Queen Ashzera, the Silver Guard fought valiantly in the desperate battles of the Sundering, willingly shedding their blood in defence of Elune’s vision.

In the aftermath of the destruction of the Well of Eternity, the few survivors of the Silver Guard gathered at the feet of the demi god Cenarius to learn the ways of Nature. Sacrificing the name of the Silver Guard in honour of their lost brethren, they took the new title of the Silver Sentinels, and dedicated themselves to securing the Kaldorei’s new homelands of Ashenvale, and building their new life in the shadow of the burgeoning World Tree.

Illidan's betrayal sent shockwaves through Kaldorei Society, and the Silver Sentinels realised the need to watch their own people as closely as they watched for the return of the Legion. While the Druids and Hunters of the Silver Sentinels would stand sentinel over the natural world, their Assassins and Warriors would train to battle in its defence, and the Priestesses would ensure that everything proceeded as the Goddess wished it.

However, a few of the Silver Sentinels feared that this would not be enough. A tiny cabal of the strongest-willed Hunters were given the task of learning of the Burning Legion as they might any other prey. Though they protested at studying what is rightly forbidden to the Kaldorei, the Demigod Cenarius himself called upon them swear an oath to Him and to the Goddess Elune that they would do so. Amongst this unlucky cabal was Taiev Shadowglade.

As the ageless Kaldorei stood watch, they faced a new threat to their people. As predicted it came from within, from the arrogant Quel Dorei. The Silver Sentinels were committed to driving the High Elves out, and cleansing Kalimdor of their taint. The battle for the soul of their people was a harsh one for the Sentinels, with more than one of them refusing to take up arms against their kin.

As the last of the Quel Dorei were driven from Kalimdor, and as the druids slipped into the Emerald Dream, a new shadow fell across the forests of Ashenvale. Their confidence shaken by the Purges, the Silver Sentinels were no match for the darkness that stalked the dark forests, and soared on monstrous wings above it, and any who sought to oppose the Destroyer and the Defiler were slaughtered. Only those in the Emerald Dream were completely safe from the onslaught, and few now live who remember it.

As the years become millennia, the grim huntress Taiev Shadowglade roamed the darkness beneath the trees of Kalimdor while Niviel Silvertree slept in the Emerald Dream.

The return of the Burning Legion to the shore of Kalimdor was a bitter thing, dreaded for Ages, but prepared for. The deeds of the Third War are recorded elsewhere, and need not be recounted here.

With the return of the Burning Legion, the Kaldorei heeded the Call to Arms and went to war, fighting valiantly in scores of brutal but ultimately insignificant skirmishes under the trees of their beloved Kalimdor. As the Burning Legion closed in, they stood back to back with Orc and Human, Dwarf, Tauren and Troll, trying desperately to halt Archimonde's assault. Though the arch demon was slain, the cost was nigh unbearable, and years would pass before any would truly understand that price.

In the years following the fall of the World Tree, the two surviving members of the ancient Silver Sentinels, and the far more ancient Silver Guard met in the village of Dolanaar. And as they travelled the new world they realised that there had never been more need for Elune´s Vision than now. They sacrificed the name Silver Sentinels in honour of those who had fallen in defence of the World Tree, and earlier, and took the name of Silvereye – vowing to watch more vigilantly than ever before for the return of old foes, or the rise of new.

Built on the wisdom taught to Niviel Silvertree by her mentor Malfurion, the Silvereye grew in size, recruiting amongst the most dedicated of the Kaldorei and gathering its strength for the war Niviel and Taiev knew was coming.

But as it grew, the burden of leading the Circle and fighting her personal crusade began to take its toll on Niviel. Knowing that it would be a risk, but knowing that there was no other way, she passed the mantle of leadership to the dark Huntress Taiev, trusting in her ironclad sense of utter duty and devotion to the Goddess to guide her in the dark places she travelled.
