Some thoughts on rumour and reputation, (or "Cybereye" and you)

Whenever you have a group of Nightelf females together, accusations of "OMG teh cyb0ring" will fly around our pointy ears. Until our sisters in the Bloodelves arrive, this situation is unlikely to change. The vast majority of our characters are female, which hardly makes it less suspicious in the eyes of people who, for one reason or other, have an axe to grind with us.

And there are people who have an axe to grind with us. This is due to personality clashes as well as a perception of elitism. But for the reasons I mentioned above these people who dislike us have a potential weapon to wield against us - and against which it is very difficult to defend.

So, we are not going to get dragged into trench war-fare denials. We are going to ignore with grace and elegance and let them seethe when they see us fail to react.

Now, I quite like the general atmosphere in the guild. Personally I have no issues with "erotic role-playing" or "teh cyborx" or whatever you want to call it. What I do have a problem with is when I get it shoved in my face. Just to clarify, humourous flirting and adult chatter in /g is not the problem. The problem is if this sort of thing spills over and becomes inappropriate behaviour "in public".

The theme of Silvereye is arrogant defenders of Her vision, not ditzy giggling hentai elves. I don't have the impression that we have any of this sort of member (and we have avoided recruiting such in the past), but keep this issue in mind, and make sure that we do not give anyone any extra ammunition.

And thusly: the topic of cybor. If you choose to indulge, do so in a private channel, and in a location where you will not be disturbed.

While I personally imagine the Kaldorei as above petty things like narrow-minded giggling body-shame, I am completely aware that this is a 13+ game, and that many other people do not share my attitude.

I am sure that you all do too.

Thanks for reading this over-long post, and any comments you may have on this issue are welcome either here, or via PM.

Never thought my words would be such an inspiration to you, Taiev rolleyes.gif

On a serious note, some people are obsessed with Silvereye. I know of two rogues who do nothing more with their characters (since they are just alts) than spy on those of the Silvereye people who they think indulge in RPing sex. I dislike both the spies and the fact that some of you have not been cautious enough and gave a good reason for keeping the "Theory of the Cybereye" alive. ph34r.gif

But I dislike the spies more mad.gif

I have suspected this for a while, and its is both terrifying and a great compliment - think that we are part of something that so obsesses other people. But Karhard makes a serious point. If you indulge, do it discretely. Lets not give the spies anything to enjoy.

In fact, we might even split up into little F/F groups and go off to "suspicious" places and then mock them when they come to "catch us in the act". cool.gif

Go one better, make a joke out of the reputation, and turn the weapon in on itself. That seems to work amazingly well (it's done so for Rheya, she hasn't been bothered since), I started doing that recently because some people decided it might be fun to spy on me. Now I'm laughing in their faces.

It's only a weapon if you let it be one folks, if you make it look like you have things to hide and be ashamed of, then it gives them more ammunition to throw at you. It also lends credence to their theories, in turn making it more powerful as a tool to wield.

I would like to say there is a good way of spying and a bad way of spying.

Spying to gather information about a character ( who he/she speaks with, finding out what is being said between certain persons after a certain event etc, is harmless and if it's done with IC reasons, I really don't mind being spied on.

But spying for the pure joy of getting some sort of OOC revenge is just plain silly. It's not un-natural for someone to have sex, so to discover that a Cybereye has a sex-life, well.. Good for you!

Voyeurism ??!! wink.gif

But, after all, we should be pleased, the Silvereye is famous for the high level of RP and for the great events that organizes, if they try to spy us on our intimacy probably they think that also the RP of our sex life must be high level. tongue.gif

…or that we organize also great sexual events too. rolleyes.gif

Some people have too much time on their hands. Seriously. Spending time on spying for potential cyb0r action? *snickers* How lame can you get...

Anywho, to me the prospect of teh cyb0rx (loathe the word by the way) comes as natural to me as any other part of rp. So my character has a sex life. Well, duuuh? I play that as seriously as I do any other aspect of the character. To me, to be spied upon while cby0rxxxorslolling is just about as rude as it would be in real life. Because I take it seriously.

The only cardinal sin I will admit to in that regard is that Sent became too happy-go-lucky over the last couple of months of play and that it took her from what she was meant to be. That I apologize for. I also apologize for the whole Lytrea affair, something that no doubt did nothing to better the public view of Silvereye, even if she wasn't even a member. She was a mistake, plain and simple, and I wish now that I had never made her, or at least the image of her.

Hilarious incidents if discovered can ensue though. The best weapon I've used is to simply stand up and be all cheerful and welcome people, tell them politely that we're kind of having a private moment, and send them off with a happy smile. Works surprisingly well and provided some (awkward, granted) rather funny dialogue. Private channels or instances are the way to go though. They're there, might as well use them instead of running the risk of ending up in an aciddy thread on the AD forum.

My two cents.

I have spoken.

Acrona didn't perform? XD

*shrugs* I don't mind the act. It's when the reputation precedes anything else you know things are getting out of hand, I think.

As a side note.... this link is not safe for work, or indeed anywhere but private viewing. Think what you will, because these people take it to the next level...
